Man dies in crash on Route 82

COLUMBIA TWP. – An Olmsted Falls man died Saturday morning after being ejected from his car during an accident late Friday night on state Route 82.

David A. Taylor, 27, was driving his Ford F-150 pickup truck around 11:30 p.m. west on state Route 82 when he lost control, drove left of center and struck a Ford Econoline van head-on, the Ohio Highway Patrol said in a press release.

Taylor, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from his truck, troopers said. The Highway Patrol said alcohol use is suspected.

Michael Smith, 19, of Lexington, Ky., was driving the van. Joseph Royer, 22, and Kate Latham, 21, also of Lexington, were Smith’s passengers. Royer and Smith were wearing seat belts but Latham was not, troopers said.

All four were taken to Southwest General Hospital with “incapacitating injuries,” troopers said.

Taylor died of his injuries Saturday morning.

Smith, Royer and Latham were treated and released Saturday morning, said Kelly Mack, director of marketing and business development with Southwest General.

Powell Caesar III, public affairs director with the Cuyahoga County Coroner’s Office, said cause and time of death for Taylor aren’t available yet.
