LAGRANGE — Vandals are striking in the parking lot of the Keystone Elementary School.
According to LaGrange Police Chief Daniel Moore, in the past two weeks, approximately 20 vehicles have been the target of vandalism in broad daylight.
“Eleven reports came in (Sept. 29) and I have one coming in today (Sept. 30),” Moore said.
Moore said he isn’t sure how extensive the damage is to most vehicles and he didn’t want to guess.
However, a spouse of a teacher said his wife’s 2009 Mercury SUV was keyed/scratched with either a key or screwdriver. The damage her vehicle sustained was bad enough that it had to be buffed out.
“We lucked out because some (vehicles) are a lot worse. Some have been gouged and will need to be repainted,” the man said.
Others, he added, have had mirrors broken off.
Moore said the vandalism is taking place between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
“We are looking in to it and we hope to catch the person(s),” Moore said.
The spouse of the local teacher said hopes the local police department catches the person(s) responsible for the damage.
“This is happening in the parking lot just in front of the Keystone Elementary School during the day. It’s costing a lot of money to get these (vehicles) fixed,” the man said. “It’s going a little too far.”
