NBA Hall of Fame announcer & legendary “Voice of the Cavaliers” steps out of retirement to join WEOL for broadcast

ELYRIA- (January 18, 2012) NBA Hall of Fame announcer and the legendary “Voice of the Cavaliers” Joe Tait will step out of retirement for one night and join AM930 WEOL for their broadcast of the boys high school basketball game on Friday January 27th, when Keystone visits Columbia.

Tait will join WEOL’s Tim Alcorn for the call of the game between the Wildcats and the Raiders, which will air at 7p on WEOL, and will also be streamed live on the radio station’s website, www.weol.com.

“Words can’t describe how thrilled we are to have Joe join us for another high school basketball broadcast on WEOL” said Alcorn.  “He has done many games with us over the years, and the players, the coaches, and the fans just love it.  Joe was scheduled to do a game with WEOL last year, but his health concerns throughout the season prevented it from taking place, so for him to take time out of his retirement to join us at Columbia is incredibly special”.

Tait’s tenure as the “Voice of the Cavaliers” ended last April when he announced his retirement after serving as the teams’ radio play by play announcer (minus a two year absence) since the Cavs inception in 1970.  During this past off-season, he has been promoting “Joe Tait, It’s Been a Real Ball”, a book authored by Terry Pluto which is a look back at Tait’s remarkable career in sports broadcasting.  The book is now in its’ fourth printing.

“This will be a very special night for the WEOL audience” Alcorn said.  “For fans to have the chance to hear that iconic distinctive voice do basketball play by play again will be something to treasure.  Joe may be retired, but he will always be the “Voice of the Cavaliers”, and it will be an honor to sit in with him at Columbia”.
