Crushers Host Christmas Color Dash for Charity

The Lake Erie Crushers along with community partners Mercy and the Morning Journal will be hosting The Christmas Color Dash on Saturday, December 14th at all Pro Freight Stadium beginning at 8AM. Make sure you pre-register online at http://www.thecolordash5k.com/avon-ohio.html You may also register at All Pro Freight Stadium starting Friday, December 13th from 5-7PM and the day of race inside the Fan-Attic souvenir shop. The Dash will raise money for three separate charities. Thirty percent of the proceeds will be divided amongst the charities.

The first charity featured in the Dash is the Mercy Foundation of Lorain County. The Mercy Foundation of Lorain County is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to advance the quality of health care through philanthropic and community support for the Mercy health system operating in Lorain County, Ohio. The Foundation funds are used to enhance and expand Mercy’s programs, projects and facilities, as well as support Mercy’s many community outreach initiatives, including the Center for Body, Mind & Spirit at the Mercy Cancer Center, the Women’s Health Center, and Parish Nursing and Resource Mothers programs.

The second charity is the Relay for Life of Elyria. Relay for Life unites communities to honor cancer survivors, raise awareness about reducing the risks of cancer and raising money to help the American Cancer Society continue their mission in fighting cancer. More specifically a group of friends from Elyria have coined themselves the Murray Ridge Mole Rats and will be supporting the Relay for Life Foundation during the Color Dash.

The final charity is the Robin Waltjen Benefit. This is a cause all too dear to us here at the Crushers. Robin is the fiancé of our own Sales Account Executive Matt Kendeigh and mother of 6 month old Brantley Kendeigh and 15 year old Alex Peebles. She was diagnosed in July of 2010 with triple negative breast cancer. After battling through and undergoing a double mastectomy and chemotherapy followed by radiation, Robin was cancer free. However, just recently in May of 2013 when Robin was near the end of her pregnancy with Brantley the doctors found a lump on her ribcage. Even after removing the lump, it was determined that the cancer was still there. The same triple negative cancer that she had battled 3 years before had returned and spread throughout her body. Robin is currently receiving treatment through a clinical trial in New York City.

The Crushers organization is determined to not only do its best on the playing field but off the playing field as well. We are proud to be partnered up with local community organizations to put on this Color Dash to help raise money for those in need and giving back to the communities that have supported us throughout the past five seasons.
