Vermilion man hurt in motorcycle crash

FLORENCE TOWNSHIP — A motorcycle crash Sunday afternoon in Erie County injured a Vermilion man.

Anthony J. Lavecchia Jr., 46, was listed in fair condition at Cleveland MetroHealth Medical Center, where he was flown after the crash, which occurred about 12:30 p.m. on Harrison Road just south of Angling Road in Erie County, according to the Sandusky post of the Ohio Highway Patrol.

Reports said Lavecchia, who was not wearing a helmet, sustained head injuries in the accident. Lavecchia was southbound on Harrison Road when he drove off the right side of the road. He tried to swerve back onto the road and struck a mailbox and post. The impact spun the motorcycle around. The bike overturned, and Lavecchia was thrown from the vehicle onto the road, the patrol said.

Initial investigation by troopers concluded neither speed nor alcohol was believed to have been factors in the crash. No charges have been filed.
