Source: Former juvenile court judge Strickland pick for running mate

COLUMBUS — Gov. Ted Strickland plans to name a former juvenile court judge as his running mate, The Associated Press has learned.

A source with knowledge of the choice tells the AP the Democrat’s running mate is Yvette McGee Brown. She directs a Columbus nonprofit that advocates for children and families. Anonymity was requested because the source was not authorized to make the information public.

McGee Brown, who is black, adds gender and racial diversity to Strickland’s team less than a week after Republican rival John Kasich chose state Auditor Mary Taylor as his lieutenant governor pick. The Dayton Daily News first reported McGee Brown’s selection.

A news conference is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Strickland needs a new candidate for lieutenant governor because incumbent Lee Fisher is running for U.S. Senate.
