Les Szekely will end his popular “Les in the Morning” radio show on WEOL in August, he announced to coworkers in an e-mail yesterday.
Szekely, of Bay Village, accepted a job as TV/Media teacher at Westlake High School.
Szekely called the decision “one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make in my life.”
“I have come to love hosting the morning show,” Szekely said. “Every day was different; every day was exciting. Every day was an honor. It was and is a part of me. Hosting a radio talk show was a dream I had for many years, and, thanks to WEOL, it was a dream fulfilled.”
Szekely has hosted “Les in the Morning” for a little over five years.
Szekely added that he’s excited for the new opportunity.
“I will not only be teaching,” he said. “I will also be running and advising their entire media department, which is quite large and state-of-the-art.”
Ultimately his family played the biggest role in his decision, he said.
“This was, as I said, a very hard decision,” he said. “But I know in my heart it is truly the right one. For both the short term and the long term, it’s the best decision for me, but more importantly, the best decision for my family, whom I place above all else.”
Szekely said he may stay at WEOL in some capacity.
“I have already discussed the possibility of me staying on in some on-air capacity, yet to be determined. I would welcome that,” he said.
WEOL is owned by Lorain County Printing and Publishing, which also owns The Chronicle.
