Brick sale will help rebuild school damaged by tornado

MILLBURY, Ohio — Bricks from an Ohio school destroyed by a tornado earlier this month are being sold to help build a new school.

The fundraiser began Thursday at Lake High School near Toledo in northwest Ohio. Nearly 450 bricks were sold for $10 apiece, raising almost $4,500 for a rebuilding fund.

Lake sophomore Haley Grames says buying a brick means taking a bit of a memory home.

The sale will continue on Friday.

The high school was directly in the path of the June 5 tornado, which wiped out the cafeteria, gymnasium and several classrooms.

In the fall, students will take their classes at Owens Community College in suburban Toledo. A new school won’t be ready before January 2012.

The tornado also killed six people in the area.
