Woman in critical condition after crash traps her under car

AVON — A 26-year-old Maple Heights woman is in critical condition after she crashed on Interstate 90 overnight and became trapped underneath her car.

The Avon Fire Department responded to the accident on I-90 eastbound near Nagel Road a little before 11 p.m. and found the woman pinned between her car and a property fence, Capt. Mike Emling said.

Mindy Ramsey was taken to St. John West Shore Hospital in Westlake and then LifeFlighted to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, according to Avon police.

According to Emling, “somehow she was outside her car,” and firefighters found her under it.

Emling said her right arm was pinned underneath the car, and she suffered head and arm injuries. She is in critical condition today, according to a MetroHealth spokeswoman.

Three children in the car were taken to St. John West Shore. They are Shemiah Carroll, 3; Emmanuel Carroll, 4; and Frank Newkirk, 6.

Neither Ramsey’s nor any of the children’s condtions were immediately available.
