ELYRIA — Firefighters and officials from Ohio Edison responded to the scene of a fire at the Woodford Avenue Substation in Elyria this afternoon.

The fire was reported about 4 p.m. at the substation near 175 Woodford. First responders reported that the substation was “majorly arching” and had exploded. The fire was still burning but was under control by 4:30 p.m. Officials said it was a capacitor bank that caught fire.

Fire officials said Ohio Edison should be able to repair the substation without shutting it down, and there shouldn’t be any power outages.
