LISA Alert issued for attempted abduction of Lorain girl

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

A LISA Alert when out today concerning the attempted abduction Friday morning of a 16-year-old Lorain girl.

The girl, whose name wasn’t released, was approached by a man in his 40s driving a pickup truck outside Rebman Recreation at 5295 Oberlin Ave., police said.

The teenager was trying to cross the street at 10:32 a.m. Friday when the man stopped his truck and tried to get the girl to go with him, police said.

When that failed, he got out of his truck and walked toward her until she fled.

The victim described the man as white, in his 40s, around 200 pounds, wearing a brown stocking cap and matching brown jacket with a full beard.

The truck was described as an older red truck with a matching cap over the bed. The cap has side windows and the truck might have had an extended cab.

Fire crews from four departments responded to a fire today that damaged one of North Ridgeville’s oldest homes.

The home, at 6050 Otten Road, was built in 1849, according to a sign that said “The Masny’s” and identified it as a century home.

According to the Lorain County auditor’s office, the home was built in 1895 and is owned by Frank Masny.

The fire, which was reported about noon, caused extensive damage to an addition over a garage in the back of the house. The main part of the home appeared to have smoke damage. A hole was cut in the roof of the main part of the house to ventilate smoke.

Firefighters from Sheffield Village, Avon, North Ridgeville and Elyria responded.

Browns fans, have your say about the team

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

With the Browns facing what could be their first TV blackout since coming back to the NFL in 1999, Browns reporter Scott Petrak wants your input for a story he’s writing for the weekend.

Want to have your say? Just respond to any or all of the following questions. Leave your response as a comment or e-mail Scott directly at spetrak@chroniclet.com. If you want to be included in the story, please give him your full name, age and town where you live and have your response in by Friday. (An e-mail address would be helpful, too, in case he has followup questions.)

  • Why aren’t you (or other fans you know) going to the game this week or this season?
  • What will you do instead of watching the Browns on Sunday?
  • Will you listen on the radio?
  • Do you think it’ll be embarrassing for Browns fans if there’s a blackout?
  • What are you most frustrated about when it comes to the Browns?
