Brookside Tip-Off Tournament
With a brand new gymnasium the Brookside Cardinals put on a heck of a show hosting their first holiday tournament. To hear any of the weekends games, just click on the scores below.
The opening game of the Brookside tournament went down to the wire. Vermilion and Oberlin entered the closing seconds tied at 53 apiece. After holding on for the last shot, The Sailor’s Joby Pfeil split the defense and laid the ball in lifting Vermilion to a 55-53 win. The Sophomore guard also led the Sailors in points finishing the evening with 13 in the game. David Johnson led the Phoenix with 12 points in the loss.
Friday’s night cap was dominated by Hawken. Led by the three point shooting of Brendan Paul who tallied a game high 21 points, The Hawks defeated Brookside 69-32. Alex Koltas and Travis Fortney led the Cardinals with 7 points each.
After a close loss to Vermilion on day one of the Brookside Tip-Off Tournament the Oberlin Phoenix rebounded in day two’s consolation game with a 64-36 victory over Brookside. In the post Donald Johnson battled past the Cardinals’s defense for a game high 15 points. Tyler Alam led Brookside with 12 points.
In the Championship Game it was once again Vermilion’s Joby Pfiel who stole the show. The Sailors Sophomore guard worked his way past the Hawken defense for a tournament high 25 points in Vermilion’s 65-54 win over Hawken. Pfiel’s outstanding play both Friday and Saturday earned him tournament MVP honors.
