It was the Indians’ 14th straight home win, bringing their home record to 14-2. It is the best start at home in franchise history.

Josh Tomlin allowed three runs on six hits over six innings but did not figure in the decision.

A man was LifeFlighted from the scene of a one-vehicle crash in the Vermilion area overnight, according to the State Highway Patrol.

The man, who the patrol did not identify, was driving a 1994 Ford Ranger westbound on North Ridge Road near Vermilion Road at 12:52 a.m. when he failed to negotiate a curve, according to the patrol. He went off the road, striking a guard rail, four street signs and a tree, according to the patrol.

He was LifeFlighted from the scene to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.

The vehicle was owned by Walter D. Mey of Wakeman, according to the patrol. It was not known if Mey was the driver.

Vermilion police, the Vermilion Fire Department and NorthCentral EMS also responded.

CINCINNATI (AP) — U.S. Sen. Rob Portman, of Ohio, is scheduled to help The Cincinnati Zoo celebrate the installation of a solar panel canopy that will provide power for the facility.

Workers have installed the $11 million canopy over a parking area. The collection of 6,400 panels is designed to produce about one-fifth of the energy the park needs and help control its electric bill.

The zoo says the 1.56 megawatt canopy is one of the country’s largest urban solar arrays accessible to the public.

Portman is scheduled to join the zoo’s executive director and other officials today to honor the project at a dedication ceremony.

PNC Bank helped finance the project for the developer.

COLUMBUS — Gas prices in Ohio are dropping closer to the $4 mark after reaching record highs.

A survey today from auto club AAA, the Oil Price Information Service and Wright Express puts the state’s average price at $4.02 for a gallon of regular-grade gasoline.

That’s down 7 cents from last Monday but 22 cents above the $3.80 that drivers were paying a month ago. And it’s a steep increase compared with this time last year, when the average was $2.84.

Around the city of Medina, the most reasonable price for a gallon of regular-unleaded fuel was listed at $3.89 this morning at Sunoco, 2884 Medina Road, according to OhioGasPrices.com. The website lists a Gas USA station in east Cleveland as having the cheapest gas statewide at $3.75 per gallon, while the most expensive is $4.35 at a Hall Fuel Mart in Canton.

Some industry analysts have said they expect fuel prices to decrease further in the next few weeks as the summer driving season begins and more gas becomes available.
