Woman in critical condition after crash traps her under car

AVON — A 26-year-old Maple Heights woman is in critical condition after she crashed on Interstate 90 overnight and became trapped underneath her car.

The Avon Fire Department responded to the accident on I-90 eastbound near Nagel Road a little before 11 p.m. and found the woman pinned between her car and a property fence, Capt. Mike Emling said.

Mindy Ramsey was taken to St. John West Shore Hospital in Westlake and then LifeFlighted to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, according to Avon police.

According to Emling, “somehow she was outside her car,” and firefighters found her under it.

Emling said her right arm was pinned underneath the car, and she suffered head and arm injuries. She is in critical condition today, according to a MetroHealth spokeswoman.

Three children in the car were taken to St. John West Shore. They are Shemiah Carroll, 3; Emmanuel Carroll, 4; and Frank Newkirk, 6.

Neither Ramsey’s nor any of the children’s condtions were immediately available.

An adult passenger in the car, Noelle Nelson, was unhurt.

Be safe: Severe thunderstorm warning, tornado watch

Lorain County and much of Ohio is now under a severe thunderstorm warning until 2:45 p.m., a tornado watch until 4 p.m. and a high wind warning until 8 p.m.

Damaging winds are likely during the mid to late afternoon.

Winds will increase to 30 mph with gusts up to 55 mph. Gusts in thunderstorms may be up to 60 mph. Tornadoes are possible with some of the thunderstorms.

Residents should secure all loose outdoor objects. During the strongest winds, stay away from windows and go to the basement or lowest floor.

A tornado watch and gale warning are in effect on Lake Erie.

Sheffield Lake man turns himself in for Vermilion bank robbery

Michael J. Farlow, 24, of Sheffield Lake turned himself in to police last night for the Oct. 18 robbery of Fifth Third Bank in Vermilion.

Vermilion police identified Farlow as a suspect Wednesday.

According to a news release, Farlow called Vermilion police last night and said he was at his residence and wanted to turn himself in. Sheffield Lake took Farlow into custody without incident.

He was taken to the Lorain County Jail and was to be arraigned at 10 a.m. today in Vermilion Municipal Court.

Police say Farlow did not display a weapon and left eastbound on Liberty Avenue with an undetermined amount of money following the robbery.

Farlow was identified thanks to multiple tips from the community, according to police.

Man LifeFlighted after 3 men beat him up

LORAIN — A Lorain man had to be LifeFlighted to a Cleveland hospital after he was assaulted by three men overnight, but he is in good condition this morning.

According to a police report, officers arrived at 1235 W. 24th St. about 10:20 last night and found Pascal James down in the front yard.

A witness told police he heard noises and looked outside to see the man being assaulted by three black males. He said the men punched and kicked James until he fell down, then continued to strike him before fleeing eastbound toward Oberlin Avenue.

James was unresponsive, and his head was swollen and he was bleeding from his mouth, the report said.

James was taken by ambulance to Mercy hospital and then was LifeFlighted to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.
