FamilyFest at LCCC

Join WEOL at Lorain County Community College this Saturday, October 12th, 12-5pm, for the 20th annual FamilyFest!  This year’s event will include lots of food, entertainment, hands-on kids’ activities, inflatable attractions, pony rides, trick-or-treat for kids and an open house of the entire campus. Admission to the festival on the LCCC campus is free.

FamilyFest will include a Scholar Salute to honor top high school graduates in Lorain County as well as Post Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) students and Early College High School students. The Scholar Salute will be held at 1 p.m. on the Courtyard Stage. Paul Kiska from News Channel 5 will emcee the Scholar Salute.

Entertainment on the Courtyard Stage will begin at 3 p.m. and feature a variety of local talent.

Art Fest at FamilyFest will be held in the Stocker Arts Center. It will include art demonstrations and items for sale by LCCC arts faculty and instructors in the LifeLong Learning program. Children will have the opportunity to add their own unique artwork in an outdoor Chalk Art Fest on the sidewalk outside Stocker Arts Center.

As usual at FamilyFest, kids’ activities abound. The Kids’ Zone offers kiddie rides, food, a family-friendly picnic area, free hands-on activities, pony rides and live entertainment. The kids will also enjoy special character appearances by some of their favorite cartoon friends.

This year’s Discovery Tent will feature a Global Cardboard Challenge which fosters play through creativity, problem solving and exploration. Participants are encouraged to bring paper towel rolls, fasteners, “S hooks” and other objects to decorate cardboard boxes.

Children are encouraged to come dressed in costumes for the campus-wide trick-or-treat event presented by LCCC’s Student Life. LCCC students will lead the kids all over campus to collect treats from costumed hosts.

Gamers’ Fest will be held in the University Center. The building’s lounge will be filled with various video game systems and the most popular games from today (and some from the past).

A long-time FamilyFest tradition, the Pie Walk will again feature Mama Joe’s Pies. The Pie Walk event is a “musical chairs” type of activity where participants can win pies from Mama Joe’s Pies. LCCC’s Staff Council sponsors the Pie Walk. The Pie Walk tent will be located just outside the Nord Advanced Technologies Center building.

The Pony Rides will be located in the University Center courtyard near the Physical Science and Health Science buildings. Tickets for pony rides and inflatable attractions will be $2 each. Coupons will be available at www.lorainccc.edu/familyfest to download.
