New Girls Basketball Coach at Vermilion

Thursday, June 9th, 2022

After years under the leadership of Coach Jason Sockel, there’s new leadership now as Coach Sockel steps away. Longtime Vermilion assistant coach Doug Mihalic will now take over as the head girls basketball coach for the Lady Sailors! Mihalic is a 2001 graduate of Lorain Catholic  and has been involved with Sailor hoops for the last 12 years! Four of those years have been spent with the girls program as well as eight years on the boys side.

“I’ve gotten to know Doug over my seven years here at Vermilion and have had the pleasure to watch him grow as a coach and as a leader.” says Athletic Director Andrew Stillman. “His dedication and commitment to the betterment of our kids is apparent, especially over these past three years that he has served the girls. I think the fact that he is a #GirlDad gives him that intrinsic motivation to be the best he can for the ladies in our gym. His family has been a big part of our program and that is a wonderful role model for everyone.”

Congratulations, Coach Mihalic!
