Mr. Kurt Russell of Oberlin Named The 2022 National Teacher of the Year

Congratulations to Mr. Kurt Russell on receiving the award for The 2022 CCSSO National Teacher of the Year! Mr. Russell has been an outstanding educational leader in the Oberlin community for many years and has helped developed excellent young leaders both on and off the basketball court. WEOL has thoroughly enjoyed our interactions with Mr. Russell over the years and we once again extend our congratulations to both him and the entire Oberlin community for this achievement!

4/18/22 7:20 Monday morning is Bobby D time on WEOL as Sr. Vice President of Public Affairs for the Cleveland Guardians, Bob DiBiasio, stopped by to recap the home opening weekend. Things didn’t go so hot against the Giants, but the Guardians will welcome in the White Sox this week with a chance at some divisional wins! (5:50)

Former Keystone Coach Clarico Named New AD at Black River

There’s a new sheriff in town for athletics at Black River. This week, the Black River School Board announced the hiring of Rob Clarico as the high school’s new Athletic Director. Clarico most recently served as an assistant principal in the Firelands School District, but is known for being head coach of the Keystone football team from 2004-2016. He takes over for Ted Gordon who steps down after 45 years in education.

“He’s a first-class individual,” Gordon told the Chronicle-Telegram. “I got to know him and his family really well. We have a lot of the same values and outlooks on things.”

The gang from the Neighborhood Alliance stopped by to talk about the Kitchen and how it will serve the community! Guests included Kathy Valderrama (Board Member), Alicia Foss (President and CEO), Frank Whitfield (Mayor of Elyria) and Commissioner Matt Lundy (Lorain County Commissioner President). (9:00)

4/15/22 7:40 Friday means it’s time for Champions of Education, brought to you by the Nordson Corporation! The focus this week was in the Lorain City Schools as Lorain City Schools CEO Dr. Jeff Graham and Assistant Superintendent Ross May updated us on the Lorain School Board’s efforts to meet certain requirements to get out from under state control.
