Scholastic Games of Lorain County: Avon Battles Elyria Catholic

This week brought us another edition of the Scholastic Games of Lorain County, presented by the Elyria Public Library System!

This week, the academic team from Avon battled the academic team from Elyria Catholic in a quarterfinal matchup!

OHSAA Spring State Tournament Venues and Dates

Monday, April 7th, 2025

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Spring sports are underway across Ohio and the Ohio High School Athletic Association has announced the dates and host venues for the state tournaments.

The College of Wooster will host the boys tennis state tournament for the second-consecutive year and Wittenberg University will host the boys volleyball state tournament for the third-consecutive year. The track and field state tournament returns to Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium at The Ohio State University after being hosted at Welcome Stadium in Dayton last year due to renovation. The lacrosse state finals return to Historic Crew Stadium in Columbus for the fourth-consecutive year.

The softball and baseball tournaments both expand from four divisions to seven divisions this year. All 21 softball state tournament games will be played in Akron at historic Firestone Stadium, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. All 21 baseball state tournament games will also be played in Northeast Ohio, with Canal Park in Akron hosting 13 of the games, including all seven championship games, and Thurman Munson Stadium in Canton hosting eight semifinal games. The baseball state tournament divisional order remains the same as published in the 2025 baseball regulations.

June 4-8 at Firestone Stadium, Akron

Wednesday, June 4 – Division IV and VII semifinals

Thursday, June 5 – Division V semifinals; Division IV and VII championships

Friday, June 6 – Division III and VI semifinals; Division V championship

Saturday, June 7 – Division II and I semifinals; Division III championship

Lorain Esports Team Punches Ticket to State Tournament

From Lorain Athletic Director Bryan Koury:

The Lorain High Esports team traveled to Baldwin Wallace University on Sunday, April 6, 2025 as the #1 seed in the OHSAA Regional Tournament. Being the top seed, the team earned a bye for the first round. In the semifinal, the team swept Brecksville Broadview Heights by scores of 13-6 and 13-0. The team then faced a very good opponent in New Tech West in the Regional Final and came out victorious by scores of 13-5 and 13-7. The team will now compete in the OHSAA State Tournament on April 26 and 26 at the University of Akron.

All you need to know about the 2025 Guardians Home Opener Festivities

Cleveland, OH – The Cleveland Guardians today announced the full slate of Opening Day festivities taking place at the Home Opener celebration on April 8 against the Chicago White Sox at 4:10PM ET. Pregame ceremonies will begin at 3:30PM ET.
The game marks the Guardians 32nd Home Opener at Progressive Field and will focus on extraordinary accomplishments by Ohioans.
Ohio State defensive end and College Football Champion, Jack Sawyer, will throw the Ceremonial First Pitch. The Pickerington native will throw to Steve Colavito, honoring his father, Rocky Colavito. Steve followed in his father’s footsteps and played minor league baseball, which included time in Cleveland.
Frank Robinson’s wife, Barbara Robinson, and daughter, Nichelle Robinson, will deliver the line-up card to honor the 50th anniversary of Robinson’s managerial debut – April 8, 1975. To recognize the legacy of Larry Dolan, his grandson and namesake, Lawrence John “Jack” Dolan, will deliver the official Game Ball to the pitcher’s mound.
Members of the string section from the world-famous Cleveland Orchestra will perform the National Anthem. The Color Guard will feature the Army, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, Marines and Coast Guard, with a flyover from the 910th Airlift Wing out of Youngstown Air Reserve Station, Ohio, flying the C130H Hercules. During the anthem, an American Flag will be held on the field by Cleveland Guardians employees and their family members.
Fans are encouraged to allow extra time for travel due to expected traffic congestion due to the Home Opener and evening Cavs game at Rocket Arena. Gates will open at 2PM ET.
DJ Kyro will be performing in the Right Field District once gates open until the start of pregame ceremonies. Cleveland Entertainers, including face painters, glitter tattoo and an airbrush artist will be on Gateway Plaza from 1-3PM ET, as well as a photo op with marquee letters. Dorian Pace, the Cleveland Heights veteran bus driver who saved 15 kids from a burning bus early this year will be recognized during an inning break.
