Former Buckeye and Elyria Native Chase Ferris to become next Elyria Catholic Head Football Coach

There’s new leadership in the Elyria Catholic football program. Former Ohio State Buckeye, NFL athlete, and Elyria native Chase Ferris will be the new head coach of the Panthers. Elyria Catholic introduced Ferris as head coach earlier this week. Fellow former Buckeyes Troy Smith (2006 Heisman Trophy Winner) and Doran Grant (2015 National Champion) will also join the staff.

Lorain County Spelling Bee Recap

Last night our own Bruce Van Dyke served as the official pronouncer for the Lorain County Spelling Bee!

It came down to two finalists last night, Bridget Smith from Durling Middle School, and Lucy Carrion from Avon Middle School.

We replayed the final round on Friday morning’s Champions of Education, brought to you by the Nordson Corporation, helping build products the world uses every single day.

Take a listen below, and congrats to Bridget on her victory! She now heads to Washington D.C. to represent Lorain County in the Scripps National Spelling Bee from May 30 to June 1!
