Elyria woman arrested for assault at Shopway

ELYRIA — An Elyria woman was arrested Sunday after allegedly assaulting and spraying pepper spray on another woman at Shopway.

Dominique Camel, 25, was charged with assault.

According to Elyria police, officers arrived at the store, in the 100 block of Lake Avenue, as sev-eral vehicles were leaving. A woman ran up to them, bleeding on the right side of her face and described by police as “covered” in pepper spray. The woman told them Camel had done it.

Police went to Camel’s residence and she told them the other woman assaulted her after Camel and her child’s father, who was with the woman, got into a verbal altercation. Camel, who is preg-nant, was placed into custody on an outstanding warrant as the investigation continued. A witness told police that Camel had instigated the incident.

ELYRIA — An Elyria man was arrested Sunday after allegedly being caught selling drugs at a Broad Street bar.

Arthur Solomon Jr., 37, was charged with possession of cocaine.

According to Elyria police, officers went to Pudge’s Place in the 300 block of Broad Street after reports of someone selling drugs there. Officers arrived and asked Solomon, who matched the description given police, to step outside. Solomon was asked if he had anything illegal on him. He said no and consented to a search.

Police found a plastic bag containing several white rocks, weighing about 1.1 grams, under one of his socks near his ankle.

ELYRIA — An Amherst man who drove drunk over the weekend called police to turn himself in, explaining that he needed somewhere to stay for the night.

James Hubbell, 64, was arrested for drunken driving and failure to maintain physical control after he called the Sheriff’s Office to let deputies know he was driving and had been drinking. He told a dispatcher he needed a place to stay for the night, so he was driving to the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office, a report said.

A deputy who was at the station working on another report walked out to the parking lot, where he saw a tan pickup truck driving through the grass at the Health District offices next door.

Hubbell exited the 2002 Ford Ranger and “had a strong odor of intoxicants … and heavy slurred speech,” the report said.

Hubbell was asked to perform several field sobriety tests, which he failed.

As another test was about to be administered, Hubbell told the deputy, “No am drunk arrest me am not doing anymore tests,” the report said.

Hubbell refused a breath test.

He pleaded not guilty this morning in Elyria Municipal Court. He has a pretrial set for Aug. 31.

BEREA — Browns punter Dave Zastudil remains in Colorado with his surgeon and isn’t expected to kick anytime soon, coach Eric Mangini said Monday.
Mangini said Friday that Zastudil had returned to the team, but there was a change of plans. Zastudil is due back Wednesday but won’t return to practice.
