It’s a Chili – Cook Off/Auction on Saturday (Nov.7) at Westwood Middle School. There will be 25 teams competing for the title of best chili in town. All proceeds from Saturdays event will go to the 8th graders educational trip to Washington D.C. For more on the weekends big cook-off we spoke with Westwood Middle School Assistant Principal Jim Rollence and Principal Theresa Lengel.

Bailey Kushner and Gwen Stembridge of the United Way of Greater Lorain County came by the studio today to tell us about their Homeless Stand Down Initiative and other upcoming volunteer opportunities.

Every year Kelly Grucinski, a psychology professor at Lorain County Community College, gathers holiday cards for the troops and sends them out to the men and women serving overseas. In 2007, one of Gruscinski’s cards landed in the Hands of Akeem Inniss, an Army National Guard Specialist from the U.S. Virgin Islands. Streaming from the card the two struck up a friendship and have been pen pals ever since. Today, Gruscinski joined us on the morning show and told us the story of her special friendship with the Innis.
