Logan Washboard Festival

This past weekend, WEOL’s Craig Adams attended the annual Logan Washboard Festival, southeast of Columbus.  Logan is the home of the Columbus Washboard Company, whose washboards are handmade, American made, since 1895.  Every year, Logan hosts a washboard festival.  Bands that play must feature a washboard, so as you might expect, the music is Bluegrass and Americana oriented.

Dan Daly, a native of Elyria and graduate of Elyria Catholic High School,  performed with his band, the Sodbusters, on Saturday. Listen here!

Spotlight on Lorain

Rachel Simmons, best-selling author and co-founder of the Girls Leadership Institute, talked about the campaign to encourage girls to develop practical skills and build their self-esteem.

And Bruce talked with Jordan Romero, the youngest person to climb Mt. Everest and all Seven Summits.

2014 Memorial Day Events

Thursday, May 22nd, 2014

The Memorial Day weekend will get underway with Friday’s annual Elyria High School Pioneer Marching Band Appreciation gala on Ely Square.

The community concert will take place near the old courthouse. The junior varsity band will perform at 5:30 p.m. followed at 7 p.m. by the marching band. Guests are asked to bring lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy the show.

The night will be complete with the yearly tradition of passing the baton to the incoming drum major.

On Monday, and government offices and some businesses will close in honor of Memorial Day. Trash pickup will be delayed by a day. Here is a list of community events: (more…)
