PREVIOUS HOME OPENERS VS. YANKEES – Entering the 2013 campaign, the Indians have hosted the Yankees in the home opener 5 times, compiling a record of 2-3. The Tribe’s victory in a home opener against the Bronx Bombers came on April 19, 1990, a game in which Greg Swindell pitched into the 7^th inning, allowing only 3 hits while striking out 5. The first Cleveland home opener between the Indians and Yankees took place on April 8, 1975 with the Indians claiming a 5-3 victory, riding a 9.0-inning complete game from Gaylord Perry. The Indians played their last home opener in Cleveland Municipal Stadium against the Yankees on April 5, 1993 losing by a score of 9-3. The two teams have met only once to start the season at Progressive Field, also coming up short, 7-1, on April 2, 1996; rookie shortstop Derek Jeter also connected for his first Major League home run.
