Indians closer Kerry Wood is expected to miss 6-8 weeks with a moderate strain in the right lat muscle (upper back).
Wood has not pitched since experiencing discomfort in the area on March 10.
The Indians do not feel it is a long-term injury.
Right-hander Chris Perez is expected to fill the closer role while Wood rehabilitates the injury.
