High School Football on WEOL: Week 5

Monday, September 19th, 2016

We enter the midway point of the high school football this Friday night on WEOL and WEOL.com. Join us for three great games featuring the best teams in Lorain and Medina County.

Brunswick ElyriaOur Kolczun & Kolczun radio game this week features Elyria and Brunswick in a Greater Cleveland Conference showdown. The Pioneers enter this Friday’s match up after a 52-14 loss to a 4-0 Medina team a week ago. The one shinning spot for Elyria in their opening game of GCC play was the return of senior running back Chris Atkinson. Though limited to just 12 touches, the two time 1,000 yard rusher went off for 83 yards. On Friday night, Atkinson will look to be a larger part of the Pioneers game. The Blue Devils enter the night coming off a 53-21 conference loss to 3-1 Solon. In the loss, the Blue Devils defense gave up 285 yards and 40 points in the first half alone. Brunswick will look to right the ship Friday night with a much stronger defensive game. Pregame begins at 6:30pm on AM930 and WEOL.com Stream 1 on Friday night. Columbia Black RiverOur Kolczun & Kolczun online game pits Columbia and Black River. The Raiders  bounced back nicely from a week 3 loss with a 42-7 win over Brookside last week. Columbia’s passing game was strong, but their ground game was dominant. Sophomore back Brandon Coleman rushed for 214 yards and four touchdowns in the win, Howerver, Black River will be no cake walk. The 3-1 Pirates are coming off of a 62-27 win over Brooklyn in week four. In the affair quarterback Mike Hazlett threw for three touchdowns. Pregame begins at 6:30pm on WEOL.com Stream 2. Medina StrongsvilleThis weeks Tri-C Medina County Match-Up features Medina at Strongsville. The the unblemished Bee’s have one of the most dangerous offenses in Northeast Ohio stinging opponents on the average for 55 points a game. Their defense has been nearly as impressive allowing just over seven points a game. Wins haven’t come easy for the Mustangs in 2016 as they enter Friday night with a 1-3 record. Last week Strongsville came out on the wrong side of a 26-22 final against Shaker Heights. Despite their losses, the Mustangs are still a team that can make a big splash in the Greater Cleveland Conference. A win for the Mustangs Friday would certainly make a statement to the rest of the league. Pregame begins Friday night at 6:30pm on WEOL.com Stream 3. Click on the helmets to hear the game live.

OFalls NRidgevilleIn our Kolczun & Kolczun Gridiron Clash online, it’s another SWC match up at the new Rangers Stadium in North Ridgeville. The Rangers look to get back on track after last weeks disappointing loss to Berea-Midpark. Despite three rushing touchdowns from Shomari Williams and two more passing TD’s from Collin Sullinger, the Rangers were unable to hold the Titans offense at bay in the 42-39 affair. This week the Rangers opponent will be an Olmsted Falls Bulldogs team that is coming off of an impressive 43-20 win over Lakewood. The Bulldogs sit in the middle of the conference standings with a 2-1 overall record. Pregame begins at 6:30pm on WEOL.com Stream 2. Click on the helmets to listen to the game live.

Solon BrunswickThis weeks Tri-C Medina County Match-Up takes us to Brunswick where the Blue Devils open up Greater Cleveland Conference play against the Solon Comets. The Blue Devils are hungry for win having lost their last two games by just a touchdown. The Solon Comets are coming off their first loss of the season  to Stow in a 13-10 final. While last season’s game was a one sided affair that saw the Comets take a 44-7 win, the Blue Devils are much improved this year under  head coach Luke Beal.  Pregame begins at 6:30pm right here on WEOL.com Stream 3. You can listen to the game live by clicking on the helmets.
