March 5th on the Nick Abraham Saturday Morning Sports Wrap-Up Show we took a look back at the 75′-76′ State Runner Up Lorain Catholic boys basketball team with the man who led the team to the title game, Jim Lawhead. We were also joined in studio by the head coach Bob Walsh who led the 85′-86′ Oberlin Indians to a state championship. The Elyria Catholic girls basketball team advanced to the District Championship on Monday night with a impressive 42-28 win over Holy Name. The Panthers were led on the score sheet by Riley Schill who totaled 15 points. Elyria Catholic is now 22-3 on the year. They will play Padua Franciscan on Thursday night for the District Title. The Bruins advanced to the championship game last night with a 42-38 win over Bay. The District Championship can be heard on AM930 starting Thursday night at 6:30pm.

On Thursday night the Amherst girls advanced to the District Semifinals with a 58-45 win over Olmsted Falls. Sydney Roule paced Amherst with a game high 26 points. On the glass, the Comets out rebounded their opponents 61-31. In the loss, Olmsted Falls’ Sarah Balfour slipped past the Comets defense for a team high 20 points. The loss ends the Bulldogs season at 12-12 on the year. The Comets will return to the court on Wednesday night against Avon for a chance to move on to the District Championship. That game will be played at Elyria Catholic. You can hear the game on AM930 starting at 6pm.
The Avon Lady Eagles picked up their first win of the postseason Thursday night in a 55-27 final over North Olmsted. Avon shot an impressive 63% from the field in the opening half of play giving them a 20 point lead over North Olmsted at the half. Alyssa Douzos was the top scorer for Avon with 12 points. Julie Kemp paced North Olmsted in the loss with 11 points of her own. North Olmsted’s season comes to an end at 8-16. Avon moves on to play Amherst next Wednesday night (Feb. 24). That game can be heard live from Elyria Catholic High School starting at 6pm on AM930 and WEOL.com
