Avon Claims Scholastic Games Championship

Avon’s Alex Stamatis receives the final Standout Scholar Award of the 2019 season

In the Scholastic Games of Lorain County Presented by the Elyria Public Library Finals, the Avon team of Jacob Boesger, Connor Smith and Alex Stamatis claimed a 420-290 victory over the Avon Lake team of Natalie Miller, Irwin Deng and Connor McNeill.

Avon Lake took the early lead scoring a perfect 50 points in the opening round. In the following round, Avon Lake extended their lead to 20 points over Avon.

The tied changed in the first buzzer round as Avon was able to beat Avon Lake to the correct answer on multiple occasions taking back the lead 160-100 heading into the fourth round.

In the Multi-clue round, Avon’s Stamatis continued the push scoring on the 50 point clue on the very first question. As the round continued, the Eagles scored two additional 50 point answers creating a deficit their rivals could not overcome.

Avon’s Stamatis received the Standout Scholar Award taking home the honor for the third time this season.

Earnest Byner talks Browns, Coaching, and Softball

On Tuesday, April 30th the Lake Erie Crushers announced that Cleveland Browns legend Earnest Byner would take part in this years Legends Softball game on June 29th at the home of the Lake Erie Crushes in Avon.

Recently the former Browns star joined Bull’s Eye on the Afternoon to talk about the charity softball game and his career as a player and coach in the NFL.

Eagles Blank Rangers

Thursday night on the WEOL Baseball Diamond Duels, the Avon Eagles picked up a 4-0 road victory over SWC rival North Ridgeville.

Eagles pitching blanked the Rangers behind the outstanding play of starter Liam Ostrowski who pitched five shut out innings, walked two batters and allowed just two hits. Combined, Avon pitchers allowed just four hits in the game.

At the plate, Ryan Jones and Nate Brooks both knocked in runs to secure the win.

During the conversation, Bruce and Craig spoke with the Senator about new legislation he has proposed to give tax relief to working families and the likelihood of it passing. Senator Brown also addressed the arrest of Wikileaks co-founder Julian Assange, and the ever rising price of prescription drugs in the United States.
