In Thursday night’s WEOL Softball Diamond Duel the #7 Amherst Comets remained perfect in Southwestern Conference Play by edging the Midview Middies in a 11-7 final.
Abbey Vorhees lead the Comets at the plate going 4-for-4 with two home runs and three RBIs in the game.
In the circle, senior pitcher Madison O’Berg remained perfect on the year picking up her 13th win of the season.
The win advances the Comets to 16-1 overall and 13-0 in SWC. The loss drops the Middies 12-5 overall, and 9-5 in conference play.

On Monday, Avon Lake team made up of Irwin Deng, Emmet Fink and Connor McNeill became the last team to punch their ticket to the Scholastic Games Semifinals by defeating the Clearview team of Sierra Hitchens, Thomas Rivera and Nathaniel Suprun 500-80 in the highest winning score of the season.
Avon Lake took the early lead outscoring Clearview 50-30 in the opening round.
The Shoremen continued to pull away in the third round, using the buzzer to pick up another fifty points on their opponent.
Avon Lake’s Connor McNeill was named the Standout Scholar picking up the honor for the second time this season.
The Scholastic games continue next Monday with a Special Final-Four Preview episode before the semifinals begin on May 6th with Avon against Lake Ridge.

The Avon Lake Shoremen picked up a 5-4 win over Avon Tuesday night in the WEOL Baseball Diamond Duel.
It was the Eagles who struck first plating a pair of runs in the second inning. Avon Lake would go ahead in the fourth inning scoring four runs by taking advantage of errors, walks and two hit batsman.
On the mound, Avon Lake’s Jackson Armbrecht kept the Eagles in check pitching five innings while allowing just three runs on five hits.
The win advances Avon Lake to 6-8 on the season. The Eagles fall to 7-8 on year with the loss.
