Erin Fletcher, Director of Wounded Warrior Project’s Warrior Care Network, joined the WEOL Morning Show to announce the new Warrior Care Network as it will help address substance use and opioid abuse. It is a new partnership between the Wounded Warriors Project and four world-renowned academic medical centers, providing veterans living with PTSD, TBI, and/or MST to live a better life with long-term wellness. On Wednesday, the Cleveland Indians, soon-to-be Guardians, were sued by a local co-ed roller derby team that shares the same name. Those Guardians, based out of Parma, have competed since 2014. They say they made the baseball club well aware of their team name early in in the Indians’ name-change process. However, it is clear the roller derby team feels wronged by negotiations, or lack thereof. A spokesman from the baseball club is reported to have a statement ready at some point on Wednesday.

Gary Sweatt, owner of the Guardians’ roller derby team, says “We know are in the right, however, and just like our athletes do on the track, we will put everything into this effort at the courthouse”.

The roller derby team has not competed since 2019 due to the pandemic.

According to Crane’s Cleveland Business, the roller derby team did not file for its own trademark application until four days after the baseball team did so this past July. Will there be two “Guardians” in Cleveland?

After a hard-fought regular season from all of our local high school football teams, the OHSAA Playoffs are finally upon us! The action gets started this weekend on WEOL, with a trio of postseason matchups on Friday night! On the radio and Stream 1, it’s Elyria at Cleveland Heights in Division 1. A Division 2 matchup takes place on Stream 2, with Toledo St. John’s paying a visit to Avon Lake. And finally, our Medina County Matchup on Stream 3 should be a good one as Brunswick hosts Berea-Midpark.

On Saturday, we have two more games for you! On Stream 2 it’s a Lorain County League playoff battle between Wellington and Columbia. Our postseason coverage for this week concludes on with Elyria Catholic hosting Marion Pleasant.
